Intrepidos Punks

When punk rock became something of a social panic in the late 70’s and early 80’s, many movies took an influence, particularly from the fashion sense. And not just mainstream films like Beyond Thunderdome and Blade Runner, but also in the independent circuit. Now, this isn’t a realistic portrayal in the way of Suburbia, or a fantasy tale of empowerment like Rock N’ Roll High School. No, this film, from Mexico’s most exploitative period of the 80’s, feels almost like it was made by a Republican Pro-Christian group. It’s the image of punk rockers most of them would have.
The plot deals with a savage group of punk rockers who go around causing chaos, rape, and murder, and it all steps up when they release their long-imprisoned leader, Tarzan (played by a luchador named El Fantasma). They go on from crime to crime until a group of policemen have a fight with them in the end. That’s it, no real plot other than that, it just goes on for ninety minutes. As I said, this is hardly a realistic portrayal of punk rockers. In fact, now that I think about it, there’s very little punk rocker about them. The soundtrack is mostly composed of the same Oi-inspired theme song that is repeated on and on until you want to kill yourself. The gang looks like a more homosexual members of the gang in Class Of Nuke ‘Em High. And of course, they’re Satanists.
The acting in this film is non-existent, with the exception of the beautiful, aggressive Princesa Lea, who plays Fiera, more inspired by Wendy O. Williams and the same exact sexy attitude. But even with it’s faults, there are a lot of scenes to recommend. The opening sequence has the nuns robbing a bank dressed as nuns, and we have entertaining sequences of them raping and killing people in gas stations and quarry mines. But the best part has to be the party/orgy scene, which lasts about ten minutes and has some of the most ridiculous sex sequences I’ve seen in my life. It’s almost disturbing how bad the sex gets, with it’s faux s&m. At least there’s plenty of t&a from all women involved, although they look more like pornographic actresses than punk rockers. Ah, who am I kidding, this movie sucks. It sucks so bad that it’s entertaining.
