La Mujer Murcielago

This movie was directed by Rene Cardona, and once you see his name flash across the screen, you know you’re in for some bafflingly campy/shitty entertainment. Obviously capitalizing on the Batman TV show that was so popular at the time, our story involves a mad scientist, and his assistant Igor (of course), who are dead set on mixing wrestler DNA with fish DNA to create a race of man-fish servants (why?!?). By the way they operate out of a boat named “Reptilicus”. If you don’t get that homage, then you and I have nothing to say to each other. When the Mexican police is too inept to do anything about it, they send a special agent that is a millionaire woman by morning, a wrestler by the afternoon, and a caped crusader by night. Imagine Yvonne Craig’s sexy Batgirl costume from the Batman tv show, and imagine a sex shop version of that, and here’s the costume that you get.
And honestly, that’s the best part of the movie, her costume. The actress who plays the role, Maura Monti, specialized in these kinds of sex-pot roles. The wrestling elements are thankfully kept at a minimum, which gives us a lot of time for James Bond-inspired scenes of investigation, treachery, and even a cool action scene. The third act, featuring the Batwoman fighting the evil fish mutant that was created for the movie, is quite a hilarious fight scene, as the costume is as cheap as cheap can get. It looks like it was rejected from the Kamen Rider TV series.
In the end, it has to be said that this is a very fun comic-book style movie that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and neither should you. It has action, monsters, and a hot female Bat-Woman who looks hot all the time. Now, if only somebody would dress up like La Mujer Murcielago at the Halloween parties I go to, we’d be in business.
